Fan drives in HD vehicles are the epitome of a necessary evil. Under heavy load, the vehicle needs every bit of air that they can move, even though the power consumption to drive the fan is high. Clutches provide a partial solution for light load situations by disengaging the fan altogether, but like a broken clock that is right only twice a day, a disengaged fan rarely provides the right amount of air flow for a running engine!
Incorporating NuVinci® technology enables the fan to be “right” all the time – high speed (even overdrive) when you need a lot of air, off when you don’t need any extra airflow, and just right the rest of the time. This results in increased fuel economy by using only the amount of energy needed for each driving condition. There is even an opportunity to reduce radiator size in some applications, which can yield additional benefits in the form of a more aerodynamic, compact vehicle.

NuVinci technology enables the fan to operate at a slower, optimum speed – or allows it to shut off completely. This results in less wear and tear on the fan and radiator and increases fuel economy by using less energy. The NuVinci CVP also shifts quickly to help smooth out transients
